Chattooga County Jail Inmate Recaptured Less Than Two Hours After Escape

Carter 100It really wasn’t much of an escape – but it did work for a couple hours. Inmate James Hardy Carter reportedly walked away from a work detail at the Chattooga County Jail about 12:30 Sunday afternoon.

He was seen getting into a black, single-cab Chevy pickup with a woman behind the wheel.

Carter was found at a residence on Oakhill-Alpine Road and taken into custody just before 2:00pm.

He was being held on a probation violation, with his original charges including shoplifting, theft by taking and theft by taking metals.

The report didn’t indicate whether the woman seen driving the vehicle would be facing any charges in connection with the incident.
