Chattooga County Murder Suspect Out on Bond

WILKINS, DEBORAHThe woman charged with the murder of a Chattooga County man last month – has been released on bond.

53 year old Deborah Elaine Wilkins was released from the Chattooga County Jail on Wednesday of this week.

Sheriff Mark Schrader said his office is still awaiting official word from the GBI Crime lab that a handgun recovered from a pond off Highway 100 on June 28th is the weapon used in the slaying of Robert “Bob” Packer back on June 14th.

The .45 caliber handgun definitely belonged to the victim; however there is still some question as to whether or not it was the murder weapon.

Packer was found dead in his home after Wilkins had reportedly called Chattooga County Chief Deputy Kevin Woods and said (quote) “I’ve got a dead body here, and I’m tired of looking at it.” (end-quote)

She subsequently confessed to killing Packer.
