Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies David Kirk (pictured left) and Jeremy Stepps (pictured right) saved a Gaylesville man on Thursday from hanging himself.

According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, at approximately 3:21 on Thursday afternoon his deputies responded to a domestic situation at a Gaylesville residence.

Upon arrival on the scene, deputies were informed the suspect had fled into the woods behind the residence.

As they searched the woods, deputies observed the man climb a tree, tie a rope around his neck, and jump from the tree.

Deputies Jeremy Stepps and David Kirk rushed to the subject, cut the rope, and lowered him to the ground.

The man was breathing but unconscious. He was air-lifted to an area hospital for treatment.

This case remains under investigation by Sheriff’s Office Investigator Tony Monroy.
