Cherokee Country Club Members Vote Against March 26 Fee Increase, Country Club Will Remain Open For Now

FROM THE CHEROKEE COUNTY HERALD

Country Club members decide against March 26 fee increase

It appears the Cherokee County Country Club will not be raising fees after all, at least not what members voted on in a recent meeting.

During a Monday, March 26 meeting of stockholders and members, after discussing various options, including possible sale of the club and filing bankruptcy, the club voted to keep the doors open by raising dues to $125 per month and $175 per month for those who own their carts but want service at the club and $200 per month for those who do not own a cart but wants cart service when they play golf or want to ride through the golf course. The club also agreed to increase membership.

The Cherokee County Country Club Board of Directors voted to have the final proposal completed by Friday, March 30, to be presented to stockholders and board members Monday, April 2, beginning at 6 p.m.

Apparently, however, things changed between the Monday, March 26 meeting and the Monday, April 2 meeting, after the club received a backlash from a number of members who threatened to quit if the dues were raised, which left the club back at Square One.

And the discussions continued. One member suggested that the increase was possibly too much at one time and members and stockholders discussed another possible option of raising fees from $70 to $105 a month.

Members also discussed an associate membership fee and raising the outside play rate.

Member Larry Guffey introduced an attorney who discussed the bankruptcy option further.

Members also heard from a potential buyer who outlined some of the things he would like to accomplish with the club and some of the problems which need to be addressed.

During the meeting, Pro Shop Manager Will Teague turned in his notice. Brad Beuckens resigned as president and J.W. Myrick resigned as vice president.

WEIS Radio will provide more information as it becomes available.

For now, the Cherokee County Country Club remains open.
