Cherokee County Animal Control Officer Dustin Dutton Visits WEIS Radio Morning Show

CHEROKEE COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER DUSTIN DUTTON JOINS JERRY BAKER ON THE WEIS RADIO MORNING SHOW

Cherokee County recently had a confirmed case of Rabies, with four children being exposed earlier in the month – Animal Control Officer Dustin Dutton:

Fortunately, the children are doing well, and suffered no complications from the exposure – however that doesn’t mean everyone will be so lucky.  Precaution should be the keyword in everyone’s vocabulary when it comes to dealing with wild animals and protecting your pets and most importantly, your family members:

It’s important to do the right thing now, and take all the proper steps ahead of time:

And remember, if you are bitten or scratched by an animal that you fear may be infected, by all means, get checked out – seek medical attention immediately.

Dutton stressed that one thing you should never do is feed wild animals.  Even though they may be cute and you think you’re doing them a favor by feeding them it really creates more than its share of problems in the long run.  They may become dependent on the food you’re providing, and it becomes habit-forming – meaning, if they do contract rabies – you have an infected animal already in the habit of coming to your house and property, which makes for a potentially dangerous situation.
