CHEROKEE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION ADOPTS 41 MILLION DOLLAR BUDGET

During the regular meeting of the Board of Education Monday evening, the Board held its final budget hearing on 2015-16 school year.

Chief Financial Officer for the Board, Robin Cunningham, made the presentation on the Budget which totaled $38,053,920 in revenues and expenses of $41,909,783.

The Board is beginning the School Year with a balance of $11,826,864 and is projected to end the year with a balance of $8,137,666. Mrs. Cunningham told the Board they would have to dip into the Reserves to make up the difference of $3,855,863 between income and expenses.

The Board receives $23.9 million from the State, $3.75 millon from the Federal Programs, $10.1 million is from local funds, and $161,020 is from other sources.

Superintendent Guice had these comments about the Budget and State Funds:

Dr. Myrick presented the Board with an update for the Technology Department. He told the Board they are now to a place with the infrastructure will carry the data load which will will be required when all the students from Grade 4 through Grade 12 will have a Chrome Book Computer to use for their studies.

He said students in Grades 4 through 8 should each have these devices to use by Christmas of this year with teacher development in place and ongoing to be sure everyone is up to speed with technology in the classroom. Myrick had this to say in summarizing his presentation:

In other business, the Board approved the 2016-2020 Capital program and Title I Intervention Contracts with Laura Oliver and Emily McManus for Sand Rock School

Two jobs were approved for posting, In-School Suspension/Instructional Paraprofessional at Cherokee County High and a bus driver for the Vocational School route at Cedar Bluff.

The next meeting of the Board is scheduled for October 8th at the Board Office.
