Cherokee County Commission Approves Agreement For Student Fire/Emergency Services Training Program

During their regular meeting on Monday, the Cherokee County Commission approved an agreement with the City of Centre and the Cherokee County Board of Education for a Student Fire/Emergency Services Training Program which will be taught at the Cherokee County Career & Tech Center beginning the 2021/2022 school year. Cherokee County EMA Director Shawn Rogers explains more:
 
 
State Representative Ginny Shaver helped to secure $20,000 to help fund the cost of the course over a period of two years ($10,000 per year). Director Rogers along with Centre Fire Chief Jeremy Lee will help teach the course along with other instructors from within the county and from the Alabama Fire College. 
 
Once students complete the 160 hour course, they will be eligible to apply with volunteer departments or the rescue squad as a certified volunteer firefighter/emergency services worker. 
 
The Cherokee County Commission is accepting sealed bids for the following surplus items until the close of business on Wednesday, July 7, 2021.
 
Bids are to be submitted to the Cherokee County Commission Office at 260 Cedar Bluff Road, Suite 103 Centre, AL 35960. All submissions should be clearly marked with the bidder’s name, address, phone number and the lot number for which the bid is being submitted. The contents of the envelope should include the same information, along with the bid amount for the item. Each item must be bid individually.
 
Sealed bids will be opened and the results read aloud in the County Commission Chambers on Thursday, July 8th at 9 a.m. Winning bidders will be notified immediately after all lot submissions have been opened and read.
 
Items are sold “as is”, without guarantee. All sales are final. Payment is required prior to removal. Items must be removed from their current location by Wednesday, July 22, 2021.
 
In other business, the Commission approved an agreement for computer support with Delta Computer Systems, Inc. in the amount of $990 per month. A standard software and hardware agreement was approved with Dataworks Plus, LLC. in the amount of $2,500 per month. 
 
Derrick Smith was approved for hire as a Highway Maintenance Technician at the Highway Department. The Commission also approved an amendment to the 2021 Holiday schedule to include the Juneteenth Federal Holiday, as is required by law. 
 
A list of surplus items from the Cherokee County Public Library was also approved for sale. 
 
The next Cherokee County Commission meeting will be Monday, July 12th at 10:00 a.m. at the Cherokee County Commission Chambers inside the County Administration Building.
