Cherokee County Commission Approves Contract for New Solid Waste Management Plan

Cherokee County CommissionDuring the Monday afternoon meeting of the Cherokee County Commission, a new contract was approved for a Solid Waste Management Plan.

County Administrator Tim Burgess:

Burgess explained the price quotes submitted by two bidders – Hodges, Harbin, Newberry & Tribble out of Macon, Georgia and Matrix Environmental of Anniston:

He went on to explain that he learned about Matrix through Roger Hall – who is now doing some contract work with the firm, and it appears that he would be doing the majority of the work if the county goes with Matrix. It was felt that Hall’s previous work at Three Corners Landfill, and his familiarity with Cherokee County, would be beneficial to the project – and at that point the commission voted to partner with Matrix Environmental.

In other business – the commission voted to re-appoint Beverly Daniel and Johnny Roberts to the Cherokee County Communications District Board of Directors – otherwise known as the E-9-1-1 Board.

A grant agreement for Services for the Elderly – with the East Alabama Regional Planning & Development Commission – was also approved, with a local match of $13,267.00

The next regular meeting of the Cherokee County Commission is slated for Monday, March 9th at 10:00am in the County Administration Building in Centre.
