Cherokee County Commission Discusses Paving Projects, Job Postings, Personnel Policies & Procedures Manual and More

The Cherokee County Commission – during their Monday morning meeting – approved the award of an Alabama Department of Transportation contract for resurfacing and striping of County Road 29 to McCartney Construction Company, Inc. and also approved an agreement with the State of Alabama for the resurfacing and striping of County Road 6 stretching from the Calhoun County line to County Road 19.  No estimated time of completion was given for either project.

In other business the Commission voted to adopt the Cherokee County Personnel Policies & Procedures Manuel, effective October 1st this year (2019); they also approved the proposal for IBM System Hardware and Software Maintenance with Vertical VAR, that, in the amount of $5,355 per year, and approved a service agreement between the County Commission and Family Traditions for $585 yearly.  Family Traditions produces educational material that is designed for fourth graders in the Cherokee County school system.

District III Commissioner Marcie Foster was appointed representative on the District Policy Committee for the East Alabama Rural Planning Organization – with Chairman Tim Burgess being named as an alternate. The Commission also approved the job posting for a part-time license inspector and approval was additionally granted for the purchase of a metal storage building measuring 12 feet x 12 feet for the Sheriff’s Office.  That building was purchased at at the low-bid cost of just $2,200 from Waldrop Manufacturing out of Anniston.

The next meeting of the Cherokee County Commission is set for Tuesday, May 28th, starting at 5:00pm in the County Administration Building on the Cedar Bluff Road in Centre.
