Cherokee County Commission Meeting

During, the Monday Cherokee County Commission planning session,  Michelle Short played a short video for the commission members.  According to Short’s presentation, This video demonstrated how bad the County Roads 126, 185 and the four mile stretch that these residents live on are being abused by people driving ATV’s in the road and wreaking havoc.

This problem has lingered for at least three years according to Mrs. Short. There are signs for tourists and people visiting to abide by the rules. The problem has snowballed into people who drive and ride these ATV’s making fun of the local residents. They have even brought in air horns to taunt the residents. They’re  tearing up these roads and making it hard for residents to maneuver and drive on the roads.

Michelle Short, said there is no enforcement to be sure the Patrons of the ATV Park follow the laws. She told those present at the meeting, When it rains it’s a really terrible situation with the mud. She told Weis Radio News, it’s like Talledega Motor Speedway. The County Commission and Law enforcement are all aware of this.

Local attorney Dean Buttram Jr., spoke at length about vacating a portion of County Road 60. Which is a 1855 feet parcel of land which dead ends. This is a private area and The Ingles family owns a lot of the property in that area. The measure was approved.

The Cherokee County Department of Human Resources  has two vacancies on the Board to be filled which was tabled until the next meeting.

The Commission approved the agreement on 911 and Central Dispatch services, they also approved the annual budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

A bid was awarded to Donahoo Chevrolet on a 2024 Chevrolet Siverado 3500 Work Truck for the highway department.
