The Cherokee County Animal Control Shelter was discussed during a planning session held prior to Monday’s meeting of the Cherokee County Commission.
County Administrator Tim Burgess, updated the Commission on the work being done at the facility which will encompass the old location of Nichol’s Animal Hospital in Centre, stating that there were still a number of issues that needed to be addressed, most of those minor in nature; he also asked that Commission members once again review their proposed Policy & Procedures Manual in preparation for final approval.
In the regular meeting – it was announced that the appointment/reappointment to the CED Mental Health Board for the term ending April, 2021 and the appointment to the unexpired term of Rebecca Clayton, which expires in April 2017, will take place during the meeting on July 11th. Resumes may be submitted through Wednesday, July 6th.
The Commission also adopted a Resolution, declaring June 15th as “Elder Abuse Awareness Day”; approved a job posting for an HMT-1 position at the County Highway Department; it was agreed to drop the speed limit on County Road 540 from 45 to 25mph; the Commission also adopted the Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday Resolution, which will start at midnight on Friday August 5th and continue through midnight Sunday August 7th.; they approved an agreement with Family Traditions, in the amount of $694.38, to provide for the purchase of “Eight Keys to a Better Me” books, to be given to local elementary school students.
The Commission also approved a Service Agreement, for the annual sampling and reporting of groundwater, at the Leesburg Landfill with Amec Foster Wheeler Infrastructure, totaling $9,537.50.
Also contracts were awarded to McCartney Construction for the resurfacing of County Road 46, from County Road 91, to County Road 41 – and County Road 47, from County Road 52 to the DeKalb County line, with a County match of $104,191.26 and the Commission approved a total of $5,904 for a much-needed upgrade of the Interview Room at the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
The next regular meeting of the Cherokee County Commission, is set for Monday, June 27th, at 5:00pm in the County Administration Building on the Cedar Bluff Road in Centre.
