Two new members were named to the Cherokee County Industrial Development Authority during the Monday morning meeting of the County Commission.
Ginny Shaver was appointed to the District III post meanwhile Thomas Fitzpatrick becomes the District IV representative. The District III term will end January 31st 2023 – the District IV term on January 31st, 2021.
The District I post was scheduled to be filled as well, however that was tabled until the next meeting of the commission.
In other business – commission members adopted a resolution and approved an agreement with the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT), for cutting and removal of trees and vegetation along the causeway on Highway 9 between Centre and Cedar Bluff – several items from the Sheriff’s Office were approved for being declared as surplus property, which will be disposed of or sold at public auction – the commission approved the lowering of the speed limit on County Road 110 from 45 mph to 25 mph – they also approved awarding the contract to McCartney Construction Company for resurfacing, traffic striping, and guardrail improvements on County Roads 33 and 20 – a Job Posting was also approved for a Mapper 2 position in the Revenue Commissioner’s Office.
The Commission also named Shawn Rogers as County Safety Coordinator; with a resolution also being adopted honoring Ensign Micky Shane Hall for his graduation from the U.S. Naval Academy; a presentation will take place during the next meeting of the County Commission, which is set for Monday, June 26th at 5:00pm, in the County Administration Building on the Cedar Bluff Road in Centre.
