During the Tuesday meeting of the Cherokee County Commission, approval was granted for a FEMA Hazard Grant Mitigation Program Agreement in the amount of $108,577; that being 75/25 match with the Town of Sand Rock providing a local match in the amount of $27,144
The Commission also voted to adopt their Severe Weather Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday Resolution in perpetuity, meaning the issue will not have to be voted on each year and each year the public, during an allotted time, will be able to select certain items related to severe weather events, tax free locally.
Also approved was the financing agreement with Caterpillar Financial Services Corporation for three pieces of equipment for the County Highway Department – the purchase of which had already been approved in the budget.

Approval was granted for renewal of Blue Cross/Blue Shield Health Insurance – covering a period from March 1st, 2018 through February 28th, 2019. The Commission also approved agreements for service for the elderly with East Alabama Regional Planning & Development Commission covering October 1st, 2017 through September 30th, 2018.
Approval was also granted for the list of Garbage Collection Fee Exemptions, as provided by the Cherokee County Health Department. There was also a Speed Limit Reduction, from 45 to 35 mph on County Road 97 – off of County Road 41 to the intersection of County Road 97 and County Road 56.
The next meeting of the Cherokee County Commission is slated for Monday January 22nd at 5:00pm in the County Administration Building on the Cedar Bluff Road in Centre.
