During the planning session taking place prior to Monday’s meeting of the Cherokee County Commission, County Administrator Daniel Steele presented each commission member with a copy of the preliminary budget for review and consideration.
The new budget must be passed by October 1st; there will be one more regularly scheduled meeting between now and then – taking place September 24th; if the budget isn’t passed on that date, a special called meeting will become necessary.
During the regular meeting on Monday, the commission approved a contract with Southern Health Partners concerning inmate medical services for the next fiscal year (October 1st ’18 through September 30th ’19); also they awarded the 2018/19 Inmate Food Bid for General Food Items and Assorted Drinks to Performance and for Frozen Food Items to Rhinehart, as the low bidders in each case – in addition – a long-term detention subsidy contract with the Alabama Department of Youth Services was approved.
The commission also approved Health Screenings, at a rate of $32 per screening, for county employees wishing to take part, with the cost being absorbed by the county; they approved an amendment to the Cherokee County Job Descriptions and Pay Plan to include a position for Maintenance Technician III with the Highway Department – and, approval was given for a Job Posting for a Nutrition Van Driver for the Cherokee County Nutrition Center.
Commission Chairman Tim Burgess also announced that the appointment for a position on the Cherokee County Human Resources Board for the term ending September 1st 2019 will take place at the next commission meeting – with resumes being accepted through the 12th
He also announced that Tom Harton tendered his resignation from the Cherokee County Health Care Authority and the appointment to fill the unexpired six year term ending in December 2022 – will take place during the October 8th commission meeting with resumes being accepted through Wednesday, October 3rd.
The next meeting of the Cherokee County Commission will take place Monday, September 24th at 5:00pm, in the Cherokee County Administration Building, located on the Cedar Bluff Road in Centre.
