Cherokee County Commission Meets with McKee & Associates

During the planning session taking place prior to Monday’s meeting of the Cherokee County Commission, McKee & Associates made a presentation to those in attendance regarding the possible construction of a new County Courthouse.  Prior to the presentation Probate Judge & Commission Chairman Tim Burgess stressed that no agreements have been entered into; that this was merely something put together by McKee & Associates as an “idea-starter”; to put forth what they have to offer, if chosen to work as a partner on the proposed project.

That presentation encompassed a brief history of work performed here in Cherokee County – which included among other projects – the Gaylesville Gymnasium; Centre Middle School; they’re about to start work on the new Centre Elementary School, that should be completed by the end of spring 2020, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.  They also presented several basic variations on basic design ideas which had been discussed.  Again, this was simply the initial trial balloon on the part of McKee & Associates, in an attempt to strike a deal to work with Cherokee County on the project.  We’ll continue to follow this story as it unfolds.

During Monday’s regular meeting the Commission approved Blue Cross/Blue Shield Health Insurance rates for the period of March 1st, 2019 – February 29th, 2020; they also accepted the petition, and supplement to petition, to vacate a portion of County Road 103 – and set a Public Hearing on the matter for the January 14th Commission meeting.

Chairman Burgess also announced that the appointment of the District 2 and 3 positions on the Cherokee County Industrial Development Board would be made during the Commission meeting taking place on January 28th 2019.  Resumes will be accepted through Wednesday, January 23rd – and two positions will be filled for the Cherokee County Parks & Recreation Board during their Commission meeting held on January 14th with resumes being accepted through the 9th.

There was also an Executive Session.  Afterwards the County Commission took the action of approving a county employee’s unpaid leave through December 31st – and also authorized the County Administrator to send a letter of notification to the employer.

The next meeting of the Cherokee County Commission is slated for Monday December 24th, at 5:00pm – taking place in the Administration Building on the Cedar Bluff Road in Centre.
