During today’s meeting of the Cherokee County Commission, County EMA Director Shawn Rogers spoke with Commission members regarding FEMA’s presence in the area following the flooding in Cherokee County.
Further information was provided for what FEMA and the EMA would be doing as part of their assessment process.
Commission Chairman Tim Burgess went on to ask what the time frame for assessing damage and making a federal declaration, with Rogers estimating 4 weeks, citing the length of the Jacksonville tornado assessment for context.
County Administrator Daniel Steele also had the opportunity to speak with Commissioners this morning regarding cleanup work.
Steele advised working with Advanced Disposal for the set up of dumpsters in possibly 3 locations for the purpose of allowing those on private property and dealing with debris as related to the floods with places to bring materials for disposal.
Steele was instructed to move forward following approval from Commission members. As everything in the suggested plan is worked on, we will provide you with more information as it becomes available.
Alongside these discussion matters, the Commission also was graced today by student members of the Cherokee Youth Leadership Program from Spring Garden, including Brianna Rogers, Lucas Myers, Macy Reedy, Emma Jane Rodgers, and Charley Grissom.
In the regular meeting, the Commission approved an excess land redemption, plus declared two vehicles from the CCSO as surplus to be sold for the next available public auction: a 2008 Dodge Durango and 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe.
Two transfer requests were approved, with those being Daniel Miller from Correctional Officer to Animal Care Worker and Melissa Rodriguez from Correctional Officer to Probate Office Clerk.
The appointment for two positions on the Cherokee County Water and Sewer Authority were also approved. Ronny Kiser was reappointed to a six-year term that will end in March of 2023, and Tammy East was reappointed to a six-year term that will end in March of 2025.
