The Cherokee County Commission has approved the Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance renewal for health and dental insurance for county employees.
Those insurance rates are going up, mostly due to their being more claims filed last year than what was paid in.

The impact on the county budget will be an increase in the budget of more than 80-thousand dollars, a little over 20-thousand of that resulting from the Affordable Care Act.
In other action, the commission approved a request for special funds from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
Commissioners also approved a grant agreement for communications equipment for police, fire and dispatch.
The commission also approved the 2014 Grant Agreement with the East Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission for services for the elderly.
The next Cherokee County Commission meeting will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, February the 10th.
