Cherokee County Democrat Party Announces Open Qualifying For Local Candidates

The Cherokee County Democrat Club and Executive Committee met on Tuesday in Centre in order to discuss the opening for local qualifying.

Committee Member Johnny Roberts informed the group that there were several local offices up for reelection this cycle with those being Cherokee County Commission Districts 1 &3, Superintendent of Education and Board of Education Places 1 & 2.

On the State level, there are two offices locally open for reelection with those being Cherokee County District Attorney, presently Mike O’Dell and the Office of Cherokee County Circuit Judge presently Judge Jeremy Taylor.

During that meeting Cherokee County Board of Education Member Lynn Rochester announced that she will be seeking another term for Place #1, Spring Garden High School Principal Mike Welsh announced that he will be seeking a bid for Superintendent of Education and Leesburg Town Clerk Jennifer Mackey announced that she is considering a bid for Cherokee County Commission District 3.

The Primary Election will be held on March 1st because this is a Presidential Preference Primary with the General Election to take place in November.

The qualifying period ends at close of business on November 6th; those that may be interested in qualifying to run for public office with the Democratic Party in Cherokee County should contact the Cherokee County Democratic Party.
