Cherokee County EMA Director Shawn Rogers Says Cherokee County Schools Will Receive New Weather Radios.

According to Cherokee County EMA Director Shawn Rogers – Cherokee County schools will be receiving new weather radios.

Director Rogers said that through cooperative efforts with the National Weather Service in Birmingham he was able to secure new weather radios for all Cherokee County schools.  The new weather radios will allow each school to receive severe weather alerts.  They will be received in real time as they are issued by the National Weather Service.

This will hopefully give each school a greater chance to prepare, and activate their severe weather plans to get children to a safer place, if and when severe weather strikes.  Director Rogers says “the safety and security of the children is always my #1 priority.  Our responsibility is to protect those who can’t protect themselves.”  He added he hopes to have the new radios programmed and installed at each school within the next few weeks.

Director Rogers also wants to thank the men and women from the NWS at Birmingham for the outstanding job they do, and for making this opportunity possible for Cherokee County at no cost locally.
