Cherokee County Fugitive Caught in Rome Hiding in Attic

Two individuals were eventually taken into custody, and were forced to come to terms with the fact that hiding in the attic, doesn’t provide a magic barrier to ward off law enforcement officials when they’re coming to take you to jail.

Ashley Lee Smith of Dallas, Georgia, age 29 and 27 year old Frankie Eugene Craig of Lindale, Georgia finally chose to come down from the attic in the residence on Mark Groves Road in Rome to face the music.  Smith reportedly gave officers another person’s ID with the intent to mislead them – once her identity was known it was discovered that she was wanted here in Cherokee County (Alabama) for Failure to Appear on previous charges of the Unlawful Manufacture of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance.

It was reported that Craig had methamphetamine on his person when officers got him out of the attic.

Smith was charged with giving false name and date of birth and fugitive of justice. Craig has been charged with possession of methamphetamine.

Both were additionally charged with three counts of obstruction.
