A 67 year old Cherokee County man is in jail in connection to a rash of vehicle break-ins and vandalism across Centre.
Centre Police Chief Kirk Blankenship said that 67 year old Robert Lewis Walker broke into and vandalized several vehicles between the Gridiron on West Main Street and Centre City Hall on East Main Street.
Chief Blankenship said that Walker attempted to steal a city vehicle from a lot at City Hall but was unsuccessful. Walker then stole a second city vehicle from City Hall and drove the vehicle into Etowah County before officers there stopped him after noticing the vehicle. Walker was placed under arrest in Etowah County on charges of DUI of Controlled Substances and as of Tuesday night he remains in the Etowah County Detention Center without bond.
