This week’s meeting of the Cherokee County Park Board was rather lengthy, although it didn’t quite last as long as the previous week.
Following some discussion with Engineer’s from LADD Environmental as well as Diane Glenn with the East Alabama Planning Commission the Park’s Board decided not to apply for a grant through East Alabama which was originally going to be used to fund upgrades to the recreational campsites at Cherokee Rock Village.
The primary reason for putting the grant on hold was the fact that at this time, the matching funds required to be put on reserve by the board are simply not available.
The board does still intend on applying for the grant next year which will give them ample time to set aside the necessary monies.
In other business, the approved a request to have monthly reports emailed to all volunteers at Cherokee Rock Village and at Cornwall Furnace in Cedar Bluff – the board also approved a $300 sponsorship for the annual Crappie Rodeo which will taken from funds donated by the Chamber of Commerce for advertisement and promotions.
