Cherokee County Park Board Planning Easter Weekend Events

Cherokee County Park Board 1The First Item of Business during the regular Park Board meeting on Wednesday afternoon was to welcome Pam Hofer to the Board; she was appointed on Monday of this week by the Cherokee County Commission to fill the unexpired term of Dave Crum.

Hofer was immediately elected to serve as the Board’s Treasurer, which she agreed to do.

Board Chairman Wolfe informed the Board of vandalism at the Comfort Station at Cherokee Rock Village Park where someone removed screws to the shower head and tried to remove it. Wolfe said there was also an issue with a slow drain. He told the Board the contractor had been called in to do the repairs.

The concrete work recommended by ADECA discussed at the last meeting is on hold until conditions are dry enough to get the work done. He informed the Board he had begun to get the paperwork together in order to complete those requirements outlined by ADECA on the grant project. Bob McWhorter Attorney for the Board had these comments regarding those requirements

Leanne Hill gave the Board an update on the progress for the Ascend Weekend planned for Easter Weekend at the Park with activities being set for that Friday through Sunday with an emphasis on Saturday April 4th

Other activities mentioned by Hill included a Color Run for children, with each participant receiving a medal, a finisher’s medal and a Cherokee Rock Village t-shirt, with the top three winners receiving a year-long pass to Cherokee Rock Village.

Hill is also communicating with other organizations regarding their possible participation The Board approved $350 in expense money for the Easter Weekend.

Board Chairman Wolfe asked to go into executive session to discuss an employee issue. The Board voted for the session. After 20 minutes they went back into the regular meeting but no further business was brought up and the meeting was adjourned.

The next regular meeting of the Cherokee County Park Board is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, March 25th at 1:00pm at their office located on West Main Street in Centre.
