Cherokee County Park Board Taking Steps To Further Improve Cherokee Rock Village

Members of the Cherokee County Parks & Recreation Board met with officials with the Alabama Department of Economic & Community Affairs and the East Alabama Regional Planning & Development Commission at Cherokee Rock Village Park on Wednesday for a guided tour of the facility.

The tour is part of a grant process that the park is currently undergoing in order to obtain funding for water and underground electricity for the parks RV camp sites.

According to Jerry Baker, Park Board Treasurer, the total cost of the project is $192,000. If the grant is awarded, this will be a 50/50 matching grant with the Cherokee County Commission funding half and the other portion coming from ADECA, money that will be well spent to promote tourism in Cherokee County at one of the most popular recreation facilities across the state.

Among those that visited Cherokee Rock Village on Wednesday was ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell –

The Park Board says that they are also working on constructing an observation deck at the park which will provide a breathtaking view of Weiss Lake, be handicap accessible and will provide a prime location for those looking for a wedding venue.
