Cherokee County has once again posted one of the lowest unemployment rates in the state, according to the latest figures released by the Alabama Department of Industrial Relations
During the month of October the rate for Cherokee County was 4.7% and statewide the rate was 6.3% – which was down from the previous month’s rate of 6.6%.
The October rate represents a drop in jobless numbers from 140,555 across the state down to 133,470; a significant improvement.
Those numbers also represent the largest percentage gain in job growth since June of 2006.
Counties with the lowest unemployment rates in the state included Shelby County at 4.1%, Lee County at 4.6% and Cherokee, Cullman and Blount counties all coming in at 4.7%.
The highest rates in the state were posted in Wilcox County standing at 12.9%, Bullock and Lowndes counties at 12.1% and Dallas County at 11.2%.
