Cherokee County Probate Judge Discusses New Procedures at Administrative Building and More on WEIS Radio Morning Show

Come Monday – you’ll notice a number of changes in procedure at the Cherokee County Administrative Building, and Cherokee County Probate Judge Tim Burgess spent some time Friday morning with WEIS Radio morning show host Jerry Baker to explain:

Burgess stated that several canopies have been placed out front to keep those waiting in line out of the weather – and marking for the “six-foot distancing rule” has been laid down, both inside and out.  “Windshield Barriers” have also been installed at each counter in the facility.

He shared further details on “traffic flow” throughout the building:

News Conferences with the very latest updates on the COVID-19 situation, will be held each  Tuesday at 10:00am in the County Administrative Building in Centre.   Those can be viewed live on the Facebook pages of the Cherokee County EMA and WEIS Radio.

In consideration of the State Health Officer’s April 28th, 2020 Order, the Administrative Building, Library, Animal Shelter and Highway Department will open to the public on Monday, May 4th @ 8:00 AM. These facilities will operate under restrictions as outlined in the order. The six (6) foot social distancing requirement remains in full effect and modifications to operations within the above-mentioned facilities must be made. Social distancing requirements should be maintained inside and outside the facilities. Modifications for each facility will be outlined at the bottom of this release.

The Courthouse and Nutrition Center will remain closed to the public through at least May 15, 2020. A determination on the future status of these facilities will be made prior to May 15, 2020. In the meantime, individuals who need to pay fees/fines or request an Absentee Ballot for the 2020 Primary Run-Off Election may call the Circuit Clerk’s office at 256-927-3340.

Per Order of the State Commissioner of Revenue dated April 1, 2020, March and April motor vehicle registration deadlines have been extended through May 15, 2020 without penalty.

The Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency will host press conferences every Tuesday at 10:00 AM through the end of the COVID-19 emergency. Press conferences may be viewed on the Facebook pages of the Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency – Alabama and WEIS Radio.

The Cherokee County Commission is committed to the health and well-being of its employees and citizens. Modified operations at County facilities may cause longer processing and wait times. We understand that this may cause minor inconveniences for some customers. Administrative Building

Tags/DMV: Limit of six (6) customers in the building at one time. Customers of the Tag/DMV office will enter through the right set of doors at the front of the building. The line for this office will form along the sidewalk under the canopies.

Probate: Limit of six (6) customers in the building at one time. Customers will enter through the left set of doors at the front of the building. 

Revenue Commission: Limit of six (6) customers in the building at one time. Customers will enter through the left set of doors at the front of the building.

County Commission: Limit of three (3) customers in the building at one time. Customers will enter through the left set of doors at the front of the building.

EMA/911: Limit of two (2) customers in the building at one time. Customers will enter through the left set of doors at the front of the building.

Board of Voter Registrars: Limit of two (2) customers in the building at one time. Customers will enter through the left set of doors at the front of the building.

Library: Limit of ten (10) customers in the building at one time. All programming for May has been canceled. The conference room will remain closed through the end of May. Patrons may choose to make a “book appointment” by calling 256-927-5838.

Animal Shelter: Limit of two (2) customers in the building at one time. Please call ahead to notify Shelter staff of your intended visit at 256-266-1390.

Highway Department: Limit of two (2) customers in building at one time.
