Cherokee County Relatively Unscathed Despite Heavy Rain and High Winds on Sunday

Cherokee County experienced some heavy rainfall and high winds on Sunday, however it certainly could’ve been much worse.

County Road 19 was blocked for a short period of time due to a tree falling across the road.

At 9:05pm a tree was reported across the County Road 41 in Broomtown and at around the same time there were reports coming in listing trees and power lines being down in several locations including Centre at Garrett’s Bridge, in the 3900 Block of Gadsden Highway and in the 3100 Block of County Road 101.

From midnight Saturday to 6:00am Monday, Cherokee County had 3.99 inches of rainfall.

According to the Gadsden/Etowah County Emergency Operations Center, as of 4:00 Sunday afternoon the highest wind gust was recorded at 10:50am ay 41 mph, with the total rainfall amount at two-and-a-half inches since midnight.  At that time, there had been 34 reports of trees or power lines down. 

One structure, on Beaird Road in the Ball Play community – was reported as having damage to the roof. 

Power outages were reported at one point, in up to approximately 1,600 households across Etowah County.
