Cherokee County Road 79 Renamed As “Claude Henry Johnson Memorial Highway”

During Monday’s meeting of the Cherokee County Commission, a resolution was adopted renaming Cherokee County Road 79 as the “Claude Henry Johnson Memorial Highway”.

Also during that meeting an appointment was made to the CED Mental Health Board to fill a six-year term ending April 2027. An appointment was also made to the Cherokee County Communications District to fill a four year term ending February 2024. 

Three vehicles from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office were declared as surplus to be sold at the next available public auction. 

An agreement for Section 5311 Nonurbanized Area Public Transportation with the East Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission with a local match of $17,198.00.

The Intergovernmental agreement establishing the East Alabama Cooperative Purchasing Association was approved in addition to an agreement with the Alabama Secretary of State;s Office to upgrade the county’s electronic ballot marking machines for handicap voters to the ExpressVote from the outdated AutoMark. 

The next Cherokee County Commission meeting will be Monday, June 14th at 10:00 a.m.
