Cherokee County School Board Elects New President/Vice President

The Cherokee County School Board has elected a new President and Vice President – during Tuesday’s meeting the board unanimously elected Suzanne Bishop as new Board President and Brian Jennings as Vice President.

The duo will fill the positions which up until last night’s meeting were held by Mark Gossett and Lynn Rochester respectively.

In other business the board was also presented with an AdvancED Self Assessment by the faculty and staff of Cherokee County High School, approved the Student Advisory Committee and also approved a change in the Graduation at Cedar Bluff School from Tuesday, May 24th to Friday, May 27th.

Two testing revisions were also approved on the 2015-2016 School Calendar to include; February 11th, 2016 – Removal of the ACT WorkKeys PP (Grade12) and February 11-25 – Add ACT WorkKeys CBT (12 Grade).

The board also approved an amended agreement with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office for School Resource Officers, approved an agreement for Pest Control Services for Sand Rock School with Extermco Pest Control in Cedar Bluff, approved the IXL License Contract for Cherokee County High School and approved Title Tutoring Contracts for Cedar Bluff and Centre Elementary Schools.

Out-Of-State Travel approved included; Lisa Burt and Sand Rock Varsity and Junior Varsity Cheerleaders to attend the Smokey Mountain Cheer Classic in Sevierville, TN on December 4-5 at no expense to the board and Tina Rowland and Sand Rock Beta Club Members to attend the Disney Youth Education Series in Orlando, FL December 17-23 at no expense to the board.

Personnel Items approved included; the resignation of Mary Lynn Spraggins, bus driver for Centre Schools effective November 30th. Certified Placements; Kacy Lemons, Nurse at Cherokee County Career & Tech School effective November 6th and Jeremiah Shane Terry, Assistant Maintenance Supervisor-HVAC effective November 2nd.  2015-2016 Supplements included, Brian Mackey, $500 for sanding and refinishing of the gym floor at Sand Rock School to be funded by the Sand Rock Athletic Club.

2015-2016 Substitutes approved included; Wesley Gossett, Kaycee Mize and Paul Sewell.

The only job posting at this time is for a bus driver on the Centre route – the Cherokee County Board of Education meets on the first and third Tuesday’s of the month at 6:00 p.m.
