Cherokee County Sees Power Outages Combined with Record Setting Cold

We had several reports of power outages early Tuesday morning.

Sarah Bright with the Cherokee Electric Co op, told us that the primary problem stemmed from a main feed line being down – the line supplies power to the Pollard’s Bend, Bay Springs, Tate’s Chapel and Fairview areas; we’ve also had reports of some areas in Goshen being without power – that, due to a problem with a breaker. There were also some locations experiencing problems in the Calhoun area and on Lookout.

Several repair crews were immediately dispatched, and power was restored to the majority of the affected locations before 9:30am.

Power company officials are requesting that all customers cut-back on usage as much as possible during the cold weather due to the threat of an overload on the system.  TVA reported that during the early morning hours of Tuesday with the temperature standing at 5 degrees, they experienced the second highest level of power demand in their history.
