Cherokee County Technology Coordinator Receives Statewide Recognition

In a recent meeting of the Cherokee County Board of Education, Superintendent Mitchell Guice recognized Cassandra Lindsey, Technology Coordinator for Cherokee County Schools, for her work that has gained statewide attention.

Dr. Tony Thacker, Alabama’s Assistant State Superintendent, sent correspondence commending Mrs. Lindsey for her work creating a planning document related to the transition all Alabama school systems will make to a new student information system. All Alabama schools currently use iNow to assign courses, build student schedules, and track students’ grades and attendance.

The new system, PowerSchool, was selected by the Alabama State Department of Education last year, and Alabama’s schools are in the process of working through the transition to the new program.

This will be a major change for administrators, counselors, and teachers. Lindsey saw a need to help streamline the process and created a month-by-month planning document of tasks each school must complete to aide in the transition.

Dr. Thacker saw the documents and asked to share them with all school systems in Alabama. Dr. Thacker had this to say of Lindsey’s work: “I think these documents are excellent resources and, if utilized, will mitigate some of the uneasiness that leaders may be feeling.  This excellent work will help other systems take a more proactive approach to readying themselves for the transition. I would like to thank both. Mrs. Lindsey and her Superintendent, Mitchell Guice, for allowing us to share these documents.”
