Cherokee County Unemployment Rate One of Lowest in the State

Alabama’s unemployment rate for the month of July (2015) stands at 6.2%.

According to the latest figures Cherokee County’s unemployment rate is slightly better than the statewide average, coming in at just 5.9%. Surrounding counties however didn’t fare so well, with DeKalb and Cleburne each coming in at 6.6%, Etowah at 6.7, and Calhoun at 7.7%

Counties with the lowest unemployment rates included: Shelby County at 4.6% and Elmore and Baldwin counties at 5.6%. Choctaw was the only county that failed to see a drop in the unemployment rate for the month of July, remaining unchanged from June.

The Education and Health Service sector saw the largest gain in job growth in July while the Leisure & and Hospitality sector also showed strong gains; meanwhile there was significant growth in the construction sector as well.
