CHEROKEE GIRLS BASKETBALL INVITATIONAL ROUNDUP: Fourth-quarter surge lifts Spring Garden girls past Collinsville

GAYLESVILLE – The Spring Garden Lady Panthers went on a 17-2 run in the fourth quarter, helping them secure a 51-39 victory over Collinsville in the Cherokee Basketball Invitational on Monday at Gaylesville.

Ace Austin led Spring Garden with 19 points, including three 3-pointers. She was also 4-of-4 at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter.

As a team, Spring Garden was a perfect 9-for-9 at the charity stripe.

Lexie Adkison added nine points for Spring Garden. Sarah Kate McKay made a pair of treys and had eight points. Neely Welsh also contributed eight points. Abbey Steward finished with five points.

Caroline Brannon led Collinsville with 12 points. Tyla Tatum tallied 11 points. Hadley Hamilton and Olivia Akins both finished with five points.

The game was close until Spring Garden pulled away in the fourth quarter. Spring Garden held a 13-11 advantage at the end of the first quarter and a 27-20 edge at halftime. Collinsville battled back to take the lead at 37-34 after three quarters.

Spring Garden battles Chattooga, Ga., on Tuesday at 3 p.m. Collinsville clashes with Cedar Bluff at 7 p.m.

Cherokee County 68, Sand Rock 48

GAYLESVILLE – The Cherokee County Lady Warriors jumped out on a 23-4 run in the first quarter and cruised to a 68-48 win over Sand Rock in the Cherokee Invitational on Monday.

The Lady Warriors were aided by five 3-pointers in the opening quarter, including three from Karlee Perry. They finished with 11 in the game, with Perry sinking five treys.

Audrey Green topped the Lady Warrior scorers with 23 points, including three treys. Perry posted 17 points. Mary Hayes Johnson connected on three 3-pointers and had 14 points. Ella Garmany added 10 points.

Lanie Henderson led Sand Rock with 21 points, including four 3-pointers. Arleigh Beard added 11 points. Maci Brown finished with six points, all from the free-throw line (6-for-6 in the fourth quarter).

Sand Rock takes on Handley on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Cherokee County battles Springville at 2 p.m.

Handley 70, Springville 59

GAYLESVILLE – Grace Rittenhouse scored a game-high 22 points to lift the Handley Lady Tigers to a 70-59 victory over Springville on Monday.

Teanna Watts tallied 17 points for Handley. Takeriauna Mosley eight points and Emilia Askew both tossed in eight points. Ariana Kyles had six points.

Abbie Talton topped Springville with 17 points. MaKalyn Kyser came away with 11 points. Bennett Patterson and Farrah Hawkins both netted seven points. Audrey Talton finished with five points.

Handley jumped out to a 22-12 first-quarter lead and held a 42-26 advantage at halftime. The Lady Tigers led 58-41 at the end of three quarters.

Handley battles Sand Rock on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Springville takes on Cherokee County at 2 p.m.

Chattooga, Ga. 77, Gaylesville 33

GAYLESVILLE – Faith Ann Foster finished with 21 points to lead the Chattooga Lady Indians to a 77-33 victory over Gaylesville on Monday.

McKiya Parrish added 13 points for Chattooga. Sade Williamson and Nevaeh Morgan both netted 10 points. Elle Martin had eight points and Ella Hurley contributed six points.

Peyton Bright topped Gaylesville’s scorers with 13 points, including three 3-pointers. Paisley Bryson tossed in nine points, including a pair of treys.

Chattooga jumped out to a 22-7 first-quarter run and didn’t look back. The Lady Indians led 49-14 at halftime.

Chattooga clashes with Spring Garden on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
