CHEROKEE GIRLS BASKETBALL INVITATIONAL ROUNDUP: Lady Warriors handle Handley 70-56

GAYLESVILLE – Karlee Perry sank five treys and finished with 25 points in Cherokee County’s 70-56 win over Handley in the Cherokee Basketball Invitational at Gaylesville on Saturday.

Ella Garmany added 12 points for the Lady Warriors. Audrey Green came away with 11 points. Mary Hayes Johnson and Sidney Johnson both had 10 points.

Grace Rittenhouse led Handley with 18 points. Teanna Watts tallied 16 points and Ariana Kyles finished with 10 points.

Handley jumped out to a 21-13 first-quarter lead, but went on a 26-7 run in the second to take a 39-28 advantage at halftime. The Lady Warriors maintained a 48-38 edge at the end of the third quarter.

Cherokee County takes on Sand Rock on Monday at 6 p.m. Handley battles Springville at 3 p.m. on Monday.

Collinsville 55, Sand Rock 37

GAYLESVILLE – Tyla Tatum tallied 21 points to lead the Collinsville Lady Panthers to a 55 -37 victory.

Kayla Beene and Olivia Akins both netted 10 points for the Lady Panthers. Beene had two 3-pointers. Emma Terrell finished with seven points.

Katelyn St. Clair led Sand Rock with nine points. Arleigh Beard added five points for the Lady Wildcats, who lost Lanie Henderson early in the contest to an ankle injury.

Sand Rock tangles with Cherokee County on Monday at 6 p.m. Collinsville clashes with Spring Garden, also on Monday at 7 p.m.

Spring Garden 74, Springville 28

GAYLESVILLE – Sarah Kate McKay sank five 3-pointers and finished with 19 points in the Spring Garden Lady Panthers’ 74-28 victory over Springville.

Ace Austin added 16 points for the Lady Panthers. Lexie Adkison contributed 14 points. Abbie Woods collected 11 points and Neely Welsh finished with nine points.

Farrah Hawkins topped Springville with six points. Tatum Bartlett finished with five points.

Spring Garden held a 14-8 first-quarter advantage, then blew the game open with a 25-7 run in the second to take a 39-15 lead into halftime. The Lady Panthers led 57-26 at the end of three quarters.

Spring Garden battles Collinsville on the second day of the invitational on Monday at 7 p.m.

Gaylesville 46, Cedar Bluff 43

GAYLESVILLE – Peyton Bright rang for 19 points in leading the Gaylesville Lady Trojans to a 46-43 victory over Cedar Bluff.

Shonda Epps added nine points for the Lady Trojans. Paisley Bryson posted seven points and Star Mayes finished with five points.

Maggie Clowdis led Cedar Bluff with 16 points. Jordyn Walker tossed in 13 points, including three 3-pointers. Za’Niya Kyle finished with eight points.

The game was tight throughout. Gaylesville held a 10-8 advantage at the end of the first quarter, but Cedar Bluff forged ahead at halftime 24-21. The Lady Trojans regained the lead at 32-29 after three quarters and held on in the fourth for the final.

Gaylesville takes on Chattooga, Ga., on Monday at 2 p.m. Cedar Bluff plays Tuesday against Collinsville at 7 p.m.
