City Park Gets New Playground Equipment

Earlier this week WEIS Radio News reported on the challenges of making upgrades to the Centre City Park with limited funds.

During Tuesday night’s Centre City Council meeting, Mayor Tony Wilkie had some good news.

He said that he made some calls, and an anonymous individual has made it possible for the city to get the playground equipment, which has already been delivered.

Mayor Wilkie says the city may have a “Community Work Day” for volunteers can come out and help put up that new equipment.

In other action, the council voted to proceed with applying for a grant that would hopefully help pay for a walking trail for the park.

The grant would be for 50-thousand dollars with the city providing a 50-thousand dollar match.

There are other improvements underway or planned for the park.

As we previously reported, renovation of the tennis courts is set to start.

In addition, a new slide has arrived and once it’s retrofitted it can be installed.

The condition of the restrooms is also being addressed by the council.
