“Coco” takes out “Justice League” with $49 million debut

Image from “Coco”; Disney/Pixar(NEW YORK) — Coco hit all the right notes, knocking Justice League out of the top spot with an estimated $49 million from Friday through Sunday.

Disney/Pixar’s animated feature — starring the voices of Benjamin Bratt and newcomer Anthony Gonzalez — collected an estimated $71.2 million for the five-day weekend, making it the fourth-highest Thanksgiving opening ever, behind FrozenMoana, and Toy Story 2.

Justice League dropped to second place with an estimated $40.7 million over the three-day and $63 million for the long weekend. Overseas, the film added an estimated $309.8 million, bringing its worldwide total to over $481 million.

Wonder bowed in third place, earning an estimated $22.3 between Friday and Sunday and an estimated $32.3 million for the five-day weekend.

In fourth place was Thor: Ragnarok, with an estimated $16.8 over the three-day and an estimated $24.3 million for the five-day.

Rounding out the top five was the comedy Daddy’s Home, delivering an estimated $13.3 million for the three-day and an estimated $18.6 million over the long Thanksgiving weekend.

Marvel and Pixar, like ABC, are owned by Disney.
