Sand Rock Man Pronounced Dead at DeKalb Regional Following “Medical Episode” While Riding Motorcycle / UPDATED

A 59 year old Sand Rock man crashed his motorcycle after apparently experiencing some type of medical episode on Tuesday afternoon,

According to Deputy DeKalb County Coroner Bruce Wilson, Ron Clanton and his wife, Vicky, were traveling on Highway 35 in the Powell area around 5:00, when Mr. Clanton reportedly lost control of the bike. 

He was pronounced dead on arrival at DeKalb Regional Medical Center in Ft Payne; his wife was admitted for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Clanton was very well-known around the area – working at Leesburg Guns & Pro Tackle for the past several years. 

Funeral services will be held Friday (October 5th) at 3:00pm, at Sand Rock Baptist Church – burial with military honors will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the church two hours prior to the service.
