The graduates of the program contribute enormously to the betterment and improvement of county government in Alabama, and graduates such as Commissioner Foster serve as a model of the best in our system of grassroots democratic government.”

The County Commissioner Graduate award will be presented to Cherokee County Commissioner Marcie Foster at a special ceremony taking place during the upcoming Annual Convention of the Association of County Commissions of Alabama.

The Graduates of the program must complete at least 120 hours of detailed practical and applied course work involving all aspects of county leadership and administration.

All County Commissioners are required to complete 50 hours of training as part of the Alabama Local Government Training Institute Basic Program. Commissioner Foster, thus far – has the distinction of being the only Cherokee County Commissioner to complete the Graduate Program, choosing to dedicate the time and effort necessary to do so in her desire to learn as much as possible about the workings of local government in order to better serve the county.

Commissioner Foster told WEIS Radio News she believes that the knowledge gained through the classes and the networking opportunities available at the conferences will allow her to be a more effective Commissioner.
