Confirmed COVID-19 Cases Statewide Now Over 16,000

The number of confirmed COVD-19 cases across Alabama has now topped the 16,000 mark, with the total Thursday morning standing at 16,032, according to the Alabama Department of Public Health.  They are now reporting 583 confirmed deaths due to the illness.

The number of presumed recoveries is listed on the ADPH COVID-19 Surveillance and Data Dashboard as being 9,355.  At this point 1,741 hospitalizations have occurred in connection with coronavirus.

Cherokee County EMA Director Shawn Rogers reports that Cherokee County has had a total of 35 confirmed cases as of Tuesday, with only five of those remaining “active” at that point.  The ADPH is currently listing a total of 871 residents of the county as having been tested.

By comparison neighboring counties are posting MUCH higher numbers – DeKalb County is at 240 confirmed cases with 1,775 people being tested; Etowah County has 240 cases, after a total of 4,042 residents being tested; and, Calhoun County has logged 152 positive results, following 3,351 tests being given there.
