Corey Colbert Sworn In as Newest Board of Education Member

The newest addition to the Cherokee County Board of Education was officially sworn in as a member on Friday morning. Corey Colbert was sworn in by Cherokee County District Court Judge Wes Mobley in front of a room filled with family members and friends in addition to a number of local school students who had attended a mock trial that morning as part of one their class assignments.

Afterwards Colbert spoke with the children and shared with them that his mother had been a teacher and that he had enjoyed the benefits of the education he had received in Cherokee County’s school system.

Following that WEIS Radio spoke with Colbert and he expressed his enthusiasm at working with the other board members:

 

His first official meeting as a board member is scheduled for next Thursday, February 23rd, at the Central Board Office on East Main Street in Centre, beginning at 6:00pm.

Colbert will be filling the term of board member Derrick Wheeler who passed away January 5th this year, following an extended illness.
