Former Cedar Bluff Resident Killed In County Road 22 Accident / UPDATED

A Kennesaw, Georgia man was fatally injured early Monday morning in a two vehicle crash occurring on County Road 22 near the intersection with County Road 450.

According to Cherokee County Coroner Jeremy Deaton, Scott Anthony (Tony) McGinnis, age 22, formerly of Cedar Bluff, died as a result of multiple blunt force trauma.

The 2002 Yamaha motorcycle McGinnis was driving was struck by another vehicle close to John’s Boat Ramp just before 9:30am.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.  

Deaton informed WEIS Radio News that McGinnis was wearing a helmet adding that he had on all the proper safety equipment.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency accident report the other vehicle was a 2006 Chevy being driven by Wesley Franklin Crawford, age 55 of Cedartown, Georgia.

The Spring Creek Fire Department along with Cherokee EMS, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Cherokee County Rescue Squad, Alabama State Troopers, and Coroner’s Office, were all called to the scene.

That accident remains under investigation.
