Coroner’s Office Releases The Name Of The Victim Who Drowned At Little River Canyon On Thursday

Cherokee County Coroner Dr. Jeremy Deaton has identified the Georgia man that drowned at Little River Canyon on Thursday morning as 23 year old Vladimir Martinez of Lithia Springs.

Deaton said that Martinez’s death has been ruled an accidental drowning. Toxicology results indicate there were no substances or alcohol in his system to cause impairment.

Bystanders called 911 at around 11:00 a.m. that morning, and National Park Service Law Enforcement Rangers responded to the scene, working in cooperation with several agencies, including Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency, Fort Payne Fire Department, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Fischer Rescue Squad, and DeKalb Ambulance Service.

Rescuers found Martinez near the center of the basin at the bottom of the falls.
