Coroner’s Office Says A Centre Man Has Died From Injuries Sustained In A Motorcycle Accident In Centre On Thursday

A Centre man has died from injuries he sustained in a motorcycle accident on Thursday night in Centre.

According to Cherokee County Coroner Dr. Jeremy Deaton, 37 year old Michael Chad Stephens died on Monday at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga.

The Centre Police Department accident report stated that the accident occurred just prior to 7:00 p.m. on the Chestnut Bypass near OK Tire when the 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle Stephens was driving was involved in a collision with a 2005 Pontiac G-6 being driven by 48 year old Centre resident Laurie Johnson. A second motorcycle, a 2017 Harley being driven by 52 year old Terrence Dixon of Cedar Bluff was also involved in the accident.

Stephens was taken from the scene by Floyd EMS to Floyd-Cherokee Medical Center where he was stabilized and then airlifted to Erlanger.

The exact cause of the accident is currently under investigation. This is a joint investigation between the Centre Police Department and the Cherokee County Coroner’s Office.
