Cody LaDale Wells – a Corrections Officer with the Ft Payne Police Department was killed in a single-vehicle accident during the early morning hours of Sunday; the 23 year old was off-duty and was traveling along County Road 85 – when his 2014 Ford Focus left the roadway, turned over and struck a tree around 3:30am.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency accident report indicated that Wells wasn’t wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash approximately a mile north of Ft Payne.
Chief Randy Bynum said Wells had been employed as a corrections officer at the facility for about five months.
He was a native of Ft Payne, graduating Ft Payne High School in 2011; afterwards he served in the U.S. Army National Guard.
Funeral services are set for this Thursday at 2:00pm at Wilson Funeral Home in Ft Payne.
Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery; the family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 4:00 – 8:00pm.
