A new committee formed to take a look at the pros and cons of annexing the Cherokee County Country Club into the City Limits of Centre will hold its first meeting Tuesday.

During last week’s Centre City Council meeting, Shane Givens suggested forming the committee to get information on the sometimes contentious issue that has been debated for some time now.

Mayor Tony Wilkie then appointed Givens, Ed Allen Jr. and three council members to the committee.

Almost everyone agrees annexing the Country Club would benefit the city by expanding its borders and bringing in new revenue.

However, there are issues related to the cost of upgrading the water system in the area and expanding police and fire protection.

Tuesday’s meeting will begin at 1 p.m. at Centre City Hall.
