Prior to the start of the regular meeting of the Cherokee County Commission on Monday – during the Planning Session – Cherokee County EMA Director Shawn Rogers briefed those in attendance on the current weather situation and in the coming days what we could see:
He stressed that everyone should be taking every precaution necessary in order to protect yourself and your family, your pets and your property.

In other business – the Commission members approved the hiring of Felicity Armstrong as Cherokee County Public Library Assistant.
Chairman Tim Burgess made note of the fact that the appointment of three positions on the Cherokee County Public Library Board would be announced during the next meeting of the Commission. Resumes can be submitted at the commission office through close of business on Wednesday, February 19th. It was also approved for the Probate Office/Motor Vehicle Department to hire Kelly Helms, on a part-time/as needed basis.
Also, a Resolution was adopted, and Participation Agreement approved, for participation in the ACCA Liability Self-Insurance Fund for the period of January 1st, 2021 – December 31st, 2024; it was also agreed that certain equipment from the Sheriff’s Office be deemed surplus property and later sold at public auction.
Two corrections officers at the Cherokee County Detention Center were honored during the Monday meeting of the Cherokee County Commission – Officers Malinda Wood and Michael Wynn successfully completed all the Alabama Jail Training Academy program requirements – earning each a “certificate of completion” and a lapel pin from the National Institute of Jail Operations.
The next meeting of the Cherokee County Commission is set for Monday, February 24th – at 5:00pm in the Cherokee County Administration Building on the Cedar Bluff Road in Centre.
