Couple Charged with Attempting to Extort Money from DeKalb Ambulance Service Director

According to information contained in a news release issued on Wednesday of this week by Ft Payne Police Chief Randy Bynum, a Ft Payne couple, Timothy Wade Bevel, age 51 and his wife, 47 year old Shelli Ranee Bevel, were arrested on May 2nd, charged with Extortion 2nd Degree.

Those arrests came about following an investigation by Detectives with the Ft Payne Police Department and members of the DeKalb County Major Crimes Task Force.  Details aren’t being released at this time however those charges stemmed from the couple’s attempt to extort money from DeKalb Ambulance Service Director Cheryl Turner.  Timothy Wade Bevel is a former employee of the ambulance service.

The investigation into the matter is on-going.

Following their arrest, the Bevels’ were processed at the Police Department, and then taken to the DeKalb County Detention Center to await setting of bond.
