COVID-19 Numbers Continue to Climb in Cherokee County

COVID rates in Cherokee County continue to climb – and during the planning session held before the Monday morning meeting of the County Commission, members heard EMA Director Shawn Rogers, who gave an update on the spread of COVID locally:

As Director Rogers stated the onset of the new Delta Variant has resulted in issues on a number of levels, which has included back-to-school plans:

He went on to stress this situation does need to be taken seriously, and a vaccination against COVID-19 is highly recommended by health care professionals; he also urges everyone to exercise several important precautionary measures – including washing your hands frequently with soap and water, and social distancing – which will greatly  reduce the risk of contracting COVID-19.

During the regular meeting, the Commission, in light of that recent spike in COVID-19 cases across the state and the nation, took the following action:

That “sick leave” pay will be for up to 80 hours.

The next meeting of the Cherokee County Commission is set for Monday, August 23rd starting at 5:00pm – taking place in the County Administration Building, on the Cedar Bluff Road in Centre.
