COVID-19 Update| Alabama Now Has Over 6,000 Cases With 209 Deaths

The latest numbers from the Alabama Department of Public Health show that there are 6,026 confirmed cases of COVID-19 statewide. There have been 52,641 individuals tested and 209 deaths related to the Coronavirus. 769 people have been hospitalized in Alabama.

288 people are currently in intensive care and 170 are on ventilators. 907 are healthcare workers (hospitals & doctors offices), 301 long term care employees and 386 long term care residents.

The latest county-by-county breakdown shows that there are 12 confirmed cases in Cherokee County with 115 total people tested and no deaths related to the illness, in DeKalb County there have been 61 confirmed cases, 735 individuals tested and 2 confirmed deaths, Calhoun County has 89 confirmed cases with 857 tested and 3 deaths and in Etowah County there are 121 confirmed cases with 866 tested and 8 deaths.

The Alabama Department of Public Health and the Cherokee County Health Department will be conducting a one day drive-thru testing clinic at the Health Department on Cedar Bluff Road in Centre on Thursday April, 30th from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. while supplies last.

To be tested, individuals must be age 10 or older and meet these criteria:

  • The patient is symptomatic with at a minimum (measured or subjective) 
  • Fever OR cough OR shortness of breath, AND 
  • Immunocompromised or have co-morbidities, or 
  • Age 65 years or older, or 
  • Healthcare worker, or 
  • Associated with a long-term healthcare facility, or 
  • Symptoms are moderate, severe, or worsening

 

If you have no symptoms, testing is not recommended. If you have mild symptoms and do not fall into one of the above high-risk groups, it is recommended that you self-isolate at home and call 1-888-264-2256 if your symptoms worsen.
