bennymarty/iStock/Thinkstock(HAVANA) — Cuba’s Foreign Minister Bruno Eduardo Rodriguez Parilla denied any attack on American diplomats at the U.S. Embassy in Havana and blamed the United States for politicizing the series of incidents.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, the minister said through a translator that “no attack has occurred. No deliberate action has taken place. If the U.S. government thinks otherwise, I invite it to present evidence.”
Cuba is willing to continue its investigation to find out what caused dozens of Americans to suffer severe health problems. He also asked why U.S. authorities requested more than 200 visas for relatives and friends of diplomats between January and October if conditions were unsafe.
Rodriguez suggested that the U.S. could be using the issue to create “significant setbacks” in the bilateral relationship.
“So far,” he added, “I can confirm conclusively…those health problems cannot be result of a single cause or single action.”
